PSALM attends ASEAN 35th Senior Officials’ Meeting on Energy

Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation Officer-in-Charge Ms. Lourdes S. Alzona, together with other officials in the energy sector, took part in the ASEAN 35th Senior Officials’ Meeting on Energy (SOME) and Associated Meetings held last July 18 at Blue Leaf Filipinas, ASEANA City, Parañaque City.

The meeting, organized by the Department of Energy, aims to address the region’s energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. The 10-year ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025 outlines the strategies to achieve these and to encourage greater collaboration among its member-countries.

On the home front, the government’s “Ambition 2040” aspires to transform the country to an upper middle-income economy. As the Philippines is moving towards a “golden age of infrastructure,” the country would need an additional 44,000 MV up to 2040 in support of the infrastructure plan. Some of the goals are to increase energy supply both for grid and off-grid areas and to provide consumers the power of choice by making the electricity market more competitive.
