PSALM GAD-FPS starts 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC)
The PSALM Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD-FPS) started today, 04 March 2024, the month-long celebration of the 2024 National Women’s Month. GAD-FPS spearheaded an Opening Program which featured guest speaker Col. Francel Margareth A. Padilla, a member of the Philippine Military Academy's "Sanghaya" Class of 2000 and a commissioned officer in the Philippine Army's Signal Corps.
Col. Francel is a 2023 Awardee for the Cybersecurity Woman Leader of the Year, Top 30 Women in Security in ASEAN, Top 10 Women in Cybersecurity Philippines and Armed Forces of the Philippines Spokesperson.
In Col. Francel’s exemplary 27-year career, she assumed diverse roles in technology-driven capacities. Her other duties include providing VIP protection as a former member of the Presidential Security Group. She also served as Information Systems Officer of the Task Force and concurrently as the Head Executive Assistant to the Chief Implementer of the National Action Plan Against COVID-19.
The GAD-FPS is PSALM’s official unit tasked to lead the corporation’s gender and development initiatives and programs.
The Women’s Month Celebration in the Philippines serves as a venue to highlight women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges, and commitments. The celebration focuses on concrete activities aligned with national and international instruments and treaties such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action, the Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development (1995-2025), the Framework Plan for Women, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The 2024 NWMC aims to capitalize on the recurring theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society” which launched to renew commitment to the advocacy, builds upon the accomplishments under the 2016-2022 theme, “WE Make CHANGE for Women”. For 2024, the sub-theme is “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patunayan!”. This year’s NWMC calls for a Bagong Pilipinas, where women are given equitable opportunities and not hindered by gender biases and discriminatory stereotypes.
