New bags for a brand new school year at Mahabang Parang Elementary School

Nestled by the hillside of Barangay Limao in Calauan, Laguna is Mahabang Parang Elementary School — this year’s recipient school of PSALM’s annual Bags-to-School project. The beneficiary school was chosen as part of Calauan, Laguna which is the host community of the now privatized MakBan Geothermal Power Plant (GPP).

Undaunted by the jampacked workload, PSALM employees took a time off their busy schedules to participate in the said activity held last 21 June 2019 that PSALM’s Corporate Social Responsibility group spearheaded. Volunteers were able to distribute bags and school supplies to schoolchildren ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 6. After the distribution, volunteers were also given a chance to tour the MakBan GPP complex.

The heat of the day was forgotten as soon as the children’s excitement were evident.

“Since I took photos, I was able to witness the passion of the volunteers and the genuine happiness of a child.  Seeing their smiles make the whole activity worth it.  It is true that volunteering has a lot of benefits; I gained new friends and was given the chance to see the world from a different perspective.  We are blessed with experiences that go beyond the four corners of our office,” said one of the  volunteers, Rubilyn B. Alcantara, Administrative Assistant of Corporate Planning Department.

Bags-to-School is an outreach project conducted in host communities of PSALM’s power generation assets, including those turned over to private companies. The project aims to equip local students with the essentials to aid in their learning and development.
