2019 CSR-GAD Medical Mission: Volunteering beyond the usual

The impassioned will to help underserved communities led  PSALM volunteer-employees to Barangay Taytay in Botocan Majayjay, Laguna to assist doctors during the PSALM Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Medical Mission on 25 May 2019. The medical mission drew patients across age groups to avail of several free health and medical services - pediatric and adult healthcare consultations, dental services, circumcisions, and optical examinations.  Vitamins and medicines were distributed to the beneficiaries of the mission.

CSR’s annual medical mission, usually conducted in partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Reserve Command Civil Military Affairs Brigade, never fails to ignite the spirit of volunteerism among employees. PSALM volunteers did everything they could, from taking notes on patients’ condition and vital signs, distributing medicines and reading glasses and cleaning surgical tools to ensure a smooth delivery of services that the barangay’s residents have long deserved.

Regularly participating in the mission has always been fulfilling for Carmelyn “Yen” Beronilla of AVDD. Yen suggests that there should be regular monitoring of underweight and malnourished children in the locality. A firm believer of the old saying “It’s better to give than to receive”, CorPlan staff Rubilyn Alcantara did her share of volunteering by taking photos of the goings-on of the mission. “It’s in my heart to reach out and participate in this kind of activity. Last year, I signified but was not chosen so I’m happy that I made it this year,” she said.

Barangay Botocan is one of the host communities of PSALM’s Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan Hydroelectric Power Plant Complex.
