This was the statement of PSALM Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Function Group urging employees to voluntarily donate blood, a practice, that it said, promotes health and saves lives.
Hence, when PSALM launched another blood donation drive last March 2016, it was no surprise it was able to draw 35 packs that surpassed the 30-blood-packs target it set. This resulted into a three (3) reserved free blood vouchers at the Philippine Red Cross-Rizal Chapter Makati Branch which are good for use for up to six months. Volunteers, who came from PSALM and other neighbouring companies, once again reunited to pursue this noble cause.
The CSR group reminds employees that PSALM’s blood donation drive stretches beyond blood donation. By donating blood, they become an extension, not just for themselves but for others, their friends and families, as well.
Corazon P. Herrero from PSALM Treasury Department recalls she once availed of this free blood for her friend's wife. “The request and the processing were very fast. I inquired with CSR first thing I arrived in the office. I informed my friend and gave him the voucher and he was able to claim the blood packets right away. The whole process only took three hours in total, she said."
“The process of claiming blood packets is simple. Call, verify, issue a reference number and you only need to present a letter from the doctor of the patient and then bring a cooler for the claimed blood packet,” CSR personnel, Ross E. Roldan, said.
As a regular contributor to Red Cross blood bank, PSALM employees are being prioritized when they request blood packets and they no longer have to line up upon presenting the vouchers.
Prior to the said bloodletting activity, CSR engaged employees through an intensified info-blast informing them of the dos and don’ts when donating blood, who are qualified to donate, the guidelines and the necessary preparations before extraction.
Bloodletting is a yearly activity of PSALM’s CSR group that has drawn strong support since it started seven years ago. But qualified employees may even donate anytime by proceeding to PSALM partnered PRC branch located on Buendia corner Dian Street, every first and last Friday of the month to have their blood extracted to continue the good practice.
