With His Excellency President Benigno C. Aquino III's appointment of Ms. Lourdes S. Alzona as board member of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM) Corporation, the former PSALM Officer in Charge has been elected as the government power firm's President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a letter dated 30 July 2015, President Aquino appointed Ms. Alzona as the replacement of Mr. Emmanuel R. Ledesma, Jr. "for the unexpired term of office that began on 01 July 2015 and will end on 30 June 2016."
Following the presidential appointment, the PSALM Board then elected Ms. Alzona as the PSALM President and CEO during its meeting that was held on Monday (03 August 2015).
With the appointment, Ms. Alzona becomes the sixth chief executive of PSALM, succeeding previous appointees Mr. Edgardo M. del Fonso, Mr. Raphael Perpetuo M. Lotilla, Ms. Nieves L. Osorio, Mr. Jose C. Ibazeta, and Mr. Ledesma. After Ms. Osorio, she is also the second woman to assume the position.
Ms. Alzona, a certified public accountant and a Business Administration graduate from the Philippine Women's University, has been in public service for 33 years.
Prior to joining PSALM, Ms. Alzona was with the National Power Corporation (NPC) for more than 20 years. Having assumed various executive positions/capacities at NPC, she gained extensive experience and training in corporate budgeting, treasury management, controllership, financial analysis and management accounting.
At PSALM, Ms. Alzona was first hired as consultant in 2003 before her appointment as manager of the Energy Market Settlement Department. When she transferred to the Controllership Department in 2004, the department was heralded as the Most Outstanding Accounting Office - Government Corporate Sector by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines. In July 2008, she joined PSALM's management team after assuming as vice president of the Finance Group, and has remained as Finance head until her recent appointment as Officer in Charge on 05 May 2015.
