Bidding for power barges moved to 16 May

27 Mar 2012

The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM) Corporation has moved the bidding date for the diesel-fired Power Barge (PB) Nos. 101, 102, 103 and 104 to 16 May 2012.

According to PSALM President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel R. Ledesma, Jr., PSALM decided to extend the bid submission deadline by another month, specifically to 12 noon of 16 May 2012, upon the request of the bidders who are still conducting due diligence on the power barges. This is principally for the purpose of giving them ample time to come up with a more responsive bid for the assets.

The 11 bidders were formally informed of the new bidding schedule through a Supplemental Bid Bulletin (SBB) issued by PSALM. "The SBB effectively modifies and forms part of the bidding documents for this particular bid," Ledesma said.

PSALM originally set the bidding date for the barges on 13 April 2012.

The SBB also indicated the new deadline for the filing of a request to bid as a consortium to 5 p.m. on 28 March 2012, and for the submission of documentary deliverables to 5 p.m. on 18 April 2012.

Ledesma reiterated PSALM's requirement for each bidder to submit an offer for each of the three packages comprising the sale of the power barges. Package 1 combines PB Nos. 101 and 102, Package 2 includes PB 103, and Package 3 covers PB 104.

Another condition for the sale of the power barges currently stationed in the Visayas is the transfer of these barges to Mindanao to augment the power supply in the region.

Commissioned in 1981, PB Nos. 101 and 102 are currently stationed at Bo. Obrero in Iloilo City. PB Nos. 103 and 104, which began operation in 1985, are moored in Botongon, Estancia, Iloilo, and at the Holcim Compound, Ilang, Davao City, respectively.
